Deal Alert: T-Mobile offering Motorola DEFY for free today

Attention to the clumsy, klutz’s, and those with butterfingers, T-Mobile is offering the Motorola DEFY for free today, and today only.  The rugged phone may not be the cream of the crop, but free is free, right?

The water-resistant, dust-proof handset is one of the better looking devices of its kind, and we’d pick this guy up before the Casio Commando any day from an aesthetics point of view. The DEFY definitely isn’t a chump in the specifications department, but starts to look like a two-year old piece of hardware when you put it against the likes of the Atrix 4G and the upcoming T-Mobile G2x.

The DEFY ships with a TI OMAP 3610 800MHz CPU, 3.7 inch display (480 x 854 resolution) that’s covered by Gorilla Glass, and a 5 megapixel camera. The handset is currently running Android 2.1 Eclair, but you can expect to see some Android 2.2 Froyo love on the thing  in the 2nd quarter of the year, which will give it a nice speed boost.

Whether T-Mobile is just being nice, or trying to clear up some inventory, this is a good deal for anyone looking for a mid-range phone that can take a serious beating. But you better hurry, as the deal is only good for today!
