Elsevier — the publisher of scientific, technical and medical information products and services — launched the “Apps for Science” challenge for software developers around the world to create customized applications that “enhance information search and discovery for researchers.” Developers are asked to create fully operational applications for the Elsevier’s SciVerse platform to enhance the research experience.
A panel of judges will evaluate eligible entries. The first prize winner will go home with $15,000; second place receives $10,000 and third place gets $5,000. The winner of the Popular Choice Award, determined by a public vote, will also receive $5,000 and two honorable mentions will each get an Apple iPad.
The “Apps for Science” challenge is already live and the deadline for submissions closes July 31, 2011. You can get additional information from a dedicated website.
As a reminder, this isn’t the first time we’re writing about Elsevier. Back in May 2010, we talked about their Scopus Alerts app, which provides iPhone-ownin’ researchers with on-the-go access to the reference information.
