I always kind of find it silly when I see new watchphones being announced but the Fossil Bluetooth MetaWatch has some interesting features which could make it a nice smartphone companion. I’m not completely convinced though.
The Fossil Bluetooth MetaWatch is based around the assumption that the notification bar is becoming just as important as the home screen for many people. I agree with this logic, as most of my interactions with my device come after I hear or feel the notification.
This watch can connect with your smartphone via Bluetooth to send those notifications to the thing on your wrist. It’s not just a notification or a notification though, as some models will actually display the text message you just received and I’d imagine this could also work for at least the subject line of an e-mail. That could be kind of useful.
The Fossil Bluetooth MetaWatch is also packed full of tech, as it also features an ambient light sensor, accelerometer, two 16×80 white OLED displays and a rechargeable battery. The company has been courting developers here to see if they want to make their apps interact with this.
Maybe I’m just in my own world here but I don’t know many people who still wear watches, as the cell phone has become many people’s way to tell time. Sure, the high-end watch market is going to continue to thrive but these products from Fossil are definitely not stylish or sexy.
To be fair, these aren’t being targeted at consumers, as the company is gaging the interest of the app community and this tech could find its way into more attractive-looking watches in the future. Style is always subjective though, so be sure to check out the video below and let us know what you think in the comments.
