Bosch Solar’s PV iPhone app can asses solar energy yield on the spot

With all the hype surrounding the iPhone, Bosch Solar decided to give it a try as a marketing channel. The German company launched a free iOS app called Solar Friend that allows users to assess the solar energy yield on the location of their choice. Using it, you can get the idea of the potential for generating electricity from solar energy from open surface areas such as rooftops, parking lots and open land areas.

The app on its end does all the calculation, returning the optimal energy yield along with the expected feed-in-tariff for that location (presuming feed-in-tariff is possible). Moreover, you can also get the estimate how much the suggested solar installation will reduce your carbon footprint.

Once you’re done assessing the solar energy potential, the app allows you to contact a local Bosch dealer to get a quote for the installation. Kinda neat, don’t you think?
