Fortumo’s in-app purchasing service adds support for operator billing, now available in 61 countries

We’ve already talked about Fortumo’s in-app purchasing service in the past. Notably we mentioned they teamed-up with Rovio to launch the so called “Bad Piggy Bank.” Now they announced expansion of the service (and update to the Android SDK) to include support for mobile operator billing. Mentioned payment method is becoming a viable alternative to Premium SMS in a number of countries in Western Europe, Asia and North America, offering better reliability and higher security as well as payouts for developers. Fortumo’s in-app payments SDK supports direct billing where it’s available, automatically falling back to Premium SMS for operators where it’s not. Developers can enable both in one single integration.

What’s more, operator billing isn’t an “English thing” only — quite the contrary, it’s available in 22 local languages in 61 countries, supporting 41 currencies. In addition, the new SDK also comes with “offline payments” support and the ability to sing along virtual currencies…

Interested developers are invited to sign-up at Fortumo’s website and start accepting in-app payments.
