Mobile TV guide app Peel launched an Android app, making it super easy for TV addicts to find and discover new TV shows. Available as a free download, the application displays custom tailored programming recommendations in an “intuitive and elegant fashion,” eliminating the need to scroll through channel-listing grids.
Peel’s home screen features colorful thumbnails of “Top Picks,” which is the other name for favorite shows. Touch one of the thumbnails and the app displays what channel that show is on as well as a brief description of the episode that is playing. Alternatively, you can swipe across the screen to explore more shows sorted by genre.
And now the magic starts – as you interact with the app, Peel learns what you like and helps you discover new shows that suit your tastes. As a result, the channel surfing experience moves to the smartphone, leaving the television screen available to display programming. Kinda neat idea.
Moreover, Peel also comes with the search feature for finding a particular program, ability to set reminders so you never miss the beginning of a show, as well as social elements that allow you to share what you are watching via Facebook and Twitter.
Finally, in addition to Android, Peel is also available for iOS-based devices.
