Last week we got a quick glimpse of Vodafone’s BlackBerry Torch 9860, but that’s not the only OS 7 device they plan on selling. The Bold 9900 is also set to come out on Vodafone UK, and if the Carphone Warehouse’s listing is accurate, it should be available on August 12 for free with a two-year contract at £31/month. Without a contract or SIM card, you’ll end up paying £499.95, which falls in line with the above-average pricing we’re expecting from T-Mobile. There’s still some variability to that launch date, which may be pushed back a bit to the 16th., or as much as another three weeks out.
The BlackBerry Bold will be headlining RIM’s new batch of smartphones, lording NFC over the Torch 9810 and 9850/60. Most of the other specs are in the same ballpark however, like a 1.2 GHz processor, 768 MB of RAM, a 2.8-inch 640 x 480 touchscreen, 5 megapixel camera with 720p video recording, and the usual stuff like Wi-Fi, GPS, HSPA+ connectivity and Bluetooth. We’ve got some hands-on video over here, if you want to take a look.
Although the August 12 launch seems awfully soon, here in Canada, Rogers may be selling it as early as tomorrow. The specifics the the Vodafone BlackBerry Bold 9900 launch are still all up in the air, but it looks like RIM will at least be able to get this one out the door in time for the back-to-school rush. The question is, who will be rushing to pick this one up with such palatable alternatives available?
