Remember that laughable Droid Bionic ad we saw last week, which really revealed little more than a kick ass chick fighting robots and the handset’s name at the end? Good, because there’s another similar ad in Korean floating around now with better clarity and a little nugget of information we hadn’t seen before: the launch date of the highly anticipated phone. That date, friends, is September 8th.
We’d say we’re surprised, but we’re not. The September 8th date has been around for quite sometime, so while we’re more than happy that we now have a solid date, it’s a bit underwhelming. Either way, Verizon’s first dual-core/LTE phone looks like it will be in the hands of the people next Thursday.
We first heard of the Bionic way back in January of this year, and the handset had been delayed due to battery issues, and eventually underwent a radical design change. The new design is much more slick than the original, even if it does look pretty similar to the Droid X. The delays and design changes has only hyped the phone up more, and more and more people are wondering just how good this phone will be when it debuts, especially as the iPhone 5 nears.
The new iPhone isn’t the only handset that threatens the upcoming Bionic, as Samsung is readying its Galaxy S II arsenal across Sprint, T-Mobile, and AT&T, with a LTE variant – possibly the Droid Prime, destined for Big Red in the future. And let’s not forget about the upcoming LG Revolution 2, and the Thunderbolt 2 that was mentioned in Verizon’s leaked roadmap. The Bionic has quite a bit of stiff competition, but maybe getting out before the onslaught of competitors will solidify its place as the go-to LTE Verizon phone for the year. That’s a big maybe, too.
Is anyone grabbing the Bionic next week or will you be waiting to see what’s available in the coming months before you pull the trigger?
