We saw the Samsung Galaxy S II for AT&T at the unveiling event recently, and while we had a little bit of time with it, we really couldn’t get a feel for the device since it was tethered and tied down. Now that we have our review unit in tow, we’ve been able to spend a little more time with the device and can give you more thorough initial impressions. Oh yeah, and a photo gallery.
The Galaxy S II is a pretty good Android device as far as high-end Android smartphones go. Immediately you’ll notice that it’s very thin and lightweight, but its size and lack of heft also give you a bit of the feeling that you’re not holding a quality-made smartphone. Samsung tends to go heavy on the plastics with its smartphones, and the Galaxy S II for AT&T is no exception. But those few gripes aside, it’s a good handset.
Flipping through the home screens and opening and closing apps didn’t seem to be slow or problematic at all. This Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread device is powered by a 1.2GHz processor and features 1GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. The new tweaks to the TouchWiz UI are pretty nifty, too. I’m particularly fond of the widget on the home screen that tells you how many active apps are open, and that you can go right into the screen where you can exit apps individually, or all at once.
