Quora iPhone app now available

Quora, a social Q&A service, has finally released its official iPhone app. Quora for iPhone lets users browse their activity feed, view questions, follow questions, vote on answers, add answers and add questions. It also includes a notifications feed, search functionality and the ability to manage your profile and view others.

The social Q&A service app, added a pretty cool shuffle feature that pulls up a random question from anywhere on the site. Although the shuffle feature may seem snazzy, the company’s bread and butter feature will be Nearby. Nearby uses the data from its recent topic location feature to let users browse topics on a map. Also, you can read or add questions about places near you, or you’ll have the option to move the map around to explore the world through the lens of Quora.

Discussing the long process of developing its iOS app, Ann K.Halsall, Quora product designer on the company’s website said:

When Neeraj Agrawal and I started working on the app earlier this year, we spent a lot of time thinking about how to translate both the experience and the technology of Quora to a mobile platform. We rethought the design from the ground up and worked hard to make it fast and native while strengthening the core product. Now, just like on the Quora web site, you can read your feed, search and add questions, check your notifications and add answers and posts.

This seems like a pretty interesting app, but eventually Quora will have to find a way to market its content to the public, because I’m sure many people out there don’t even know who they are. And in order for them to be a true competitor to the Yahoo Answer and Answers.com’s of the world they’d need to work on making themselves more visible.
