TomTom is optimizing its iOS app to make it sing along the Apple iPad. Version 1.9 is compatible with the iOS 5, featuring a higher resolution and an “enhanced user interface” to fit the larger screen size. That “enhanced UI” involves showing both driving view and advanced lane guidance at the same time with the option to switch to driving view or advanced lane guidance view at any point with one touch from anywhere within the app.

In addition, this release of TomTom also comes with new maps, updated roads and points of interest. Optional HD Traffic update is available via in-app purchase and existing TomTom HD Traffic subscribers can switch subscriptions from their iPhones to their iPads, at no cost.

Finally the price – TomTom 1.8 for the U.S. is available for $49.99. Existing TomTom customers can download the new version to their iPad free of charge…

TomTom Europe ($119.99) [iTunes link]
