Foursquare teams-up with SinglePlatform to show users prices at local business

The basic check-in service is not good enough for Foursquare – the company needs to expand to actually start making some serious money. As part of their newly rolled Explore feature, they’ve teamed-up with SinglePlatform to deliver pricing menus for more than 250,000 local businesses across 13,000 markets in the U.S. Whether it’s a spa, salon, bun-jee jumping adventure or restaurant, you can already find out how much it charges for which service/product through Foursquare.

At the moment, the new feature is limited to foursquare.com and m.foursquare.com websites but it’s matter of days (maybe weeks) when mobile apps for major platforms (i.e. iOS and Android) will get the capability, too. Moreover, this data will soon be available on the hundreds of apps that rely on Foursquare’s API.

I like the idea of knowing prices before visiting some local business, though I’m not sure that’s what Foursquare is all about. Then again, the times are changing and so do smart companies. We’ll see whether this new feature will help Foursquare fight with the likes of Facebook and Google…
