Nokia Lumia 900 wins in screen comparison test

YouTube user foxfire235 posted a unique video online pitting the iPhone 4S, HTC One X, and Nokia Lumia 900 against each other to determine which phone has the best display. You might expect the iPhone’s retina display or even the One X’s large high-res display to take the cake, but you’d be wrong. The Nokia Lumia 900 reigns as champ.

The reviewer says that while the Lumia 900 is probably over-saturated more than the competing devices, it overall has the “best viewing experience” and can be compared to having a regular photo pasted over the display — it looks that good. Maybe it’s just me, but from a video perspective it looks like the HTC One X is the most over-saturated, but it’s hard to tell from the perspective of a YouTube viewer.

The Nokia Lumia 900 is just another testament that specs don’t matter. It features a standard AMOLED display, 4.3 inches diagonally. Nokia boasts their “ClearBlack” display technology — whatever that is — but it only has a 800 x 480 resolution, which is pretty low for a 4.3-inch display. If you’re a big pixel density enthusiast, the iPhone 4S is still the winner with 326 ppi. We can argue all day about whether giant phones are better than smaller ones, but in terms of pure quality, it seems that Nokia’s Lumia 900 fares quite well.

Be sure to check out the full video comparison of the iPhone 4S, HTC One X, and Nokia Lumia 900 below. If you’ve played around with any of these phones or own one, would you agree the Lumia 900 is superior?

I think the guy should have tested all three screens in more than one way. AMOLED is definitely know for its vibrancy, but if he tested out viewing angles and sunlight visibility, it would probably be a different story.

I love the Apple retina screen, but actually the AMOLED wins here too. The difference in full sunlight is pretty dramatic in favor of the AMOLED.

I have the Lumia and my daughter has the 4S. The Lumia destroys the 4s in direct sunlight. It’s absolutely amazing to see.

    • Agreed.

The lumia would still win. Having a polarized screen means having the least reflective screen of any device thus the best viewing angles.

  • WOW, Lumia looks GREAT, Thank you for doing this test.

As a ‘video’ person – the Lumia certainly looks better here. Yes, HTC looks over saturated, and the 4S lacks contrast – but it’s saturation look better. The Lumia has a truer black which really helps the contrast, as does the AMOLED – b/c they are brighter.

Honestly, though, shooting this stuff without a reference point its really hard to tell. If you were to take the phones in the dark, then the contrast issues would fade.

Nokia Lumia is just PURE AWESOMENESS!!!

Clearblack means it gives you better reading experience e.g. in sunshine but doesn’t simply amp up the brightness at the cost of battery life

  • NOkia lumia is last attempt of Nokia to be in mobile industry which is already it lost of samsung and apple

  • Nokia is known for its high-quality hardware. Nokia phones are not easily broken.
