Kyocera Communications may not have the brand recognition of Motorola, but the handset maker has been making mobile phones for 12 years. The latest in the company’s product lineup includes the water-resistant Hydro and Qwerty-packing Rise.
The Hydro boasts of IPx5- and IPx7-level water resistance and can handle a 30 min plunge into 1M deep water. The Rise is an in-between handset with both a Qwerty keyboard and a touchscreen that’s meant to help feature phone users make the jump to a smartphone.
Both the Rise and Hydro include a 3.5-inch HVGA (480×320) display, 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 2GB ROM, 512MB RAM, and microSD expansion (up to 32GB). Each phone has a 3.2-megapixel camera with LED flash and camcorder. Connectivity-wise, the Rise and the Hydro both support EV-DO Rev. A, WiFi and Bluetooth 2.1+EDR. The phones are powered by Android 4.0 with Swype.
