Not exactly a mobile news, but definitely related and interesting… VIA Technologies unveiled the $49 APC Android PC system. It’s not exactly a beast under-the-hood, but could definitely help Google push its mobile platform to the mainstream user.
The system is powered by WonderMedia ARM 11 SoC, while also sporting HDMI and VGA display ports, 512MB of RAM (why not more?), 4 USB 2.0 ports, audio-out/mic-in, 10/100 Ethernet port, 2GB of built-in memory and a microSD expansion slot. Moreover, there’s a custom build of Android OS which is optimized to be used with keyboard and mouse, and which comes with a number of pre-installed apps.
Measuring just 17×8.5 cm, the new Android PC will be ship in July 2012 and at the moment we don’t know which companies will take advantage of this platform. The way I see things, it sounds like a great PC for the emerging markets of the world. What do you say?
