The last-minute mobile hotel booking app HotelTonight secured a $23 million Series C investment in a round led by U.S. Venture Partners (USVP), with existing investors — including Accel Partners, Battery Ventures and First Round Capital — also participating. In total, the company has raised $35.85 million in venture funding since launching in 2011.
As part of the deal, USVP’s Rick Lewis will join HotelTonight’s board, helping drive the company forward. He is on the board of directors of Act-On Software, ScoreBig, ThreatMetrix, Trunk Club and Yammer. Lewis also led USVP’s investment in myYearbook.com, which was later acquired by Quepasa.
As for what the new cash will be used, HotelTonight plans to expand its team, further its international presence (following its April launch in Canada), drive product innovation and continue to build the “best hotel booking app available in the travel market.”
HotelTonight is currently available in over 40 US cities, Toronto and Vancouver, and gives hotels the opportunity to fill unsold rooms. On the other hand, users get exclusive access to deep discounts at high-demand hotels.
