It was back in January when we first heard about Vizio’s Google TV box. Then in June they announced it again, hinting us the launch is imminent. And now (finally) you can pre-order your unit from Vizio’s website and expect to get it in mid-August.
If you recall, the Vizio Co-Star is a cheap ticket to Android on the big screen, offering quite a bang for 100 bucks. Moreover, it can also double as a game console when paired with OnLive’s gaming service.
The problem, however, is that we’re still not sure what’s under the Co-Star’s hood. Vizio is pretty quiet about the specs sheet, suggesting their baby doesn’t rock a fast quad-core processor — otherwise I’m sure they would emphasize that fact, big time. That said, if you’re looking for an Android-powered gaming system, perhaps you’re better off with Ouya, which should be released at some point in September. It’s powered by NVIDIA’s quad-core Tegra 3 processor, ensuring for smooth gaming experience. Otherwise, if you just want YouTube, on-demand movies plus some other apps, Vizio’s box is the way to go…
