Location-based services provider Telmap is teaming-up with Sony Music to allow users of the Telmap Mobile Location Companion to choose from a selection of voices that will guide their navigation sessions. Yup, this means that you will be able to get voice directions from a celebrity.
Initially, the partnership was trialed in June in Germany, bringing two European Championship themed parody voices recorded by famous German comedian and radio personality, Chris Böttcher. In July, a new SpongeBob Squarepants voice was introduced and additional voices are in the pipeline.
Telmap users can download these voices for 4.99 EUR per voice with no restrictions on usage. Of course, once it gets good feedback in Germany, Telmap will launch Sony Music themed voices in other territories and through other carriers.
It’s worth adding that Telmap is not the first navigation company to offer third-party voices – more than a year ago, TomTom introduced the Simpson voice pack.
