With the Optimus 4XHD still one of our favorite Android handsets around right now, LG looks to be readying another incredibly powerful handset in the near future. Said phone would be the Optimus G, and while we only have a few base specs of the rumored device, that’s all we need to get excited for it.
Packed to the gills with some high-end specifications, the LG Optimus G looks like it will be able to handle any competition thrown at it when released. The handset is said to be rocking a 4.7 inch True HD IPS display, quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 CPU, 13 megapixel rear-facing camera, 2GB of RAM, and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, which makes it one beastly piece of kit.
The upcoming handset from LG looks like it will be putting Samsung’s Galaxy S III in its crosshairs, and with a spec sheet like this, we don’t think it too bold of a move. While Sammy may be ruling the Android roost, LG obviously isn’t looking to just sit and take it. The company proved to the world that it can make a smartphone that’s just as sexy and powerful as anything Samsung has put out with the 4X HD, challenge it with the Vu, and is now looking to put any negative connotations that remain to rest with the Optimus G.
Little is known about the release of the handset, but it doesn’t look like it will be making its debut at IFA this year. To top it off, with yesterday’s rumor that both LG and Sony will be launching Nexus handsets this year alongside Samsung’s updated Galaxy Nexus, we’d be more than happy to see the ‘G’ in Optimus G stand for Google, and make the handset a Pure Google experience. That’s pretty unlikely, as Asia Today reports that the device will be running LG’s Optimus 3.0 user interface, but we can still dream.
Personally, I believe LG is one of the few company’s that will be able to surprise us this year, and its rumored handsets like this that solidify that belief.
LG is looking to bring the heat in 2012. Anyone looking forward to this handset when it rears its head?
