Amazon has just announced the 7″ Kindle Fire HD, which will be a beefed up version of their refreshed Kindle Fire complete with an HD display, HD Front Facing Camera, and a $199 price tag. The new Kindle Fire will launch on September 14th and include the following features:

  • 7-inch HD display with 1280 x 800 resolution
  • Dual-core TI OMAP 4470 processor
  • 16 GB of storage
  • HD front facing camera
  • Dolby Digital Plus sound
  • 2.4 and 5GHz WiFi support with dual antennas for improved signals
  • X-Ray for Movies, Books, Textbooks
  • Whispersync for Games, Voice, Immersion Reading
  • Custom Skype and Facebook applications

The new Kindle Fire HD 7″ slate represents a marked improvement over both the previous Kindle Fire and its newly announced refreshed model, and maintains the super-low $199 price point. Amazon clearly wants to sell a lot of content in its ecosystem, and is willing to subsidize the heck out of its tablets to get more customers in the door. Folks interested in the Kindle Fire HD 7″ slate can preorder the device today for $199, with a shipping date of next Friday, September 14th.
