I’m a big fan of smart wearable devices and I love smart watches. I had a chance to spend few minutes with the Pebble and my MetaWatch review unit arrived few days ago (so expect more on that).
Now I’m glad to say that two additional smart watch projects have been posted at Indiegogo, which is a Kickstarter-like community that helps entrepreneurs sell products before they were made (raise money).
SmartFitty
Coming from a California-based team, SmartFitty is a sports watch that will sync with your phone, send you alerts, while allowing you to run some cool apps like activity, sleep and fitness monitors. Similarly to Pebble, there’s an option to change the watch face, control your music and even check in on Facebook.
SmartFitty is a water resistant (up to 30 meters) product with specs that include ePaper high-res display, Precision Motion and Ambient Light Sensors, Accelerometer and a battery that should keep it live for up to 7 days. Size wise, this watch measure 50 x 40 x 18 mm (yeah, it’s kinda thick), and it’s available in white and black.
Early bird price, available for first 250 backers, is $125. Delivery starts in September.
VEA Buddy
The other watch, VEA Buddy, comes from a Marseille, France-based team. It’s much thinner (8mm) but also a wider product with a UI made for social networking fans.
Features are similar to any other smart watch out there (notifications + music control), though there’s also the ability to use it as an image viewer and GPS assistant tool. Just like SmartFitty, the VEA Buddy is also water-resistant and can “handle” up to 3ATM.
Specs wise, VEA Buddy comes with a 2-inch capacitive touchscreen, 8GB of internal memory, battery life of 10 days, and will be able to sing along Windows Phone devices (in addition to iOS and Android).
VEA Buddy will be available in three colors options: black model could be yours for $150, while white and red are pre-selling for $160 each (add $15 for shipping outside of France). Once the Indiegogo campaign ends, this watch will sell for $249. Estimated delivery – June 2013.
