Continuing it’s legacy of fun and innovative titles, Nintendo revealed yesterday the next step in its Mario franchise, Super Mario 3D World. The game will be available on the Wii U, and will offer 4 player madness within a 3D world chock full of warp pipes, goombas and the like.

Along with new levels and baddies, Nintendo is bringing a new suit into play, the Cat suit. The new cat suit will allow Mario and friends to run up vertical walls, pounce on enemies and claw the crap out of them. Mario, Luigi, Toad and Princess Peach will a ll be playable characters, and each character will offer their own special abilities. The special abilities are akin to those of Super Mario Bros. 2 on the NES, with Luigi having a high jump, Princess Peach the ability to glide and Toad having a little more muscle than the others.

The title is expected to arrive on the Wii U in December of this year.

Features:

  • Each character has unique abilities and play styles. For example, Princess Peach glides over gaps, while Luigi has his trademark extra-high jump.
  • The new cat transformation allows players to run on all fours, pounce on enemies, attack in midair or use their claws to scamper up walls and goal poles.
  • Explore colorful 3D environments filled with obstacles and contraptions like transparent pipes and vertical conveyor belts, which add new puzzle elements.
  • Use the Wii U GamePad controller’s touch screen to search for hidden blocks and freeze enemies in place.
