While NVIDIA’s powerful hand-held gaming device is set to launch tomorrow, it’s facing a short delay. The delay is in response to a mechanical issue of a third-party component, and we should now see the Shield become available to consumers some time next month.
NVIDIA’s official statement below:
“During our final QA process, we discovered a mechanical issue that relates to a 3rd party component. We want every SHIELD to be perfect, so we have elected to shift the launch date to July. We’ll update you as soon as we have an exact date.”
While some of you may be bummed out about the delay, July is less than a week away. The fact that the price of the Shield was dropped to $299 last week may soften the blow a bit, and even if it doesn’t, a few short weeks shouldn’t halt the anticipation of the device.
However you feel about the delay, we’d say it’s a smart move on NVIDIA’s part to hold off shipping units until it’s as good as it can be.
Don’t worry, you’ll just have to play Skyrim on your PC a few more weeks.
