Chinese handset maker Coolpad is apparently looking to enter the nascent smart watch market. According to GizChina, the company will introduce a watch companion with its new phablet, Coolpad Grand 4, allowing users to get notifications on their wrist. The mentioned phablet rocks a 5.9-inch screen, making it an everything but pocketable device. So the idea is to allow users to get all the updates on a watch, while pulling out the Grand 4 only when that makes sense – to answer an email, browse the web, check latest news and so on.
Coolpad had hard time bringing its best devices to the West. In the U.S. they’ve found a partner in MetroPCS which has been selling the company’s few mid-end smartphones. That, however, could change in the future, presuming the Chinese company finds a good distribution partner. And since that Grand 4 sounds like a promising product we want to believe Coolpad is onto something. We’ll see where this goes…
