And yet again we see Apple acquiring a mapping company. After Locationary and Hopstop, Cupertino is going for Embark, which offers localized transit apps for cities like New York, San Francisco and London.

There are no doubts in my mind Embark’s technology and data will be included in some future version of Apple Maps, most likely replacing the existing transit features.

Earlier this year, Apple CEO Tim Cook said that Apple has been buying a company every month or two, adding: “We are always looking, and if anything, we will do more of that in the future.”

And here’s a brief promo video for Embark, showing how the service works in New York, and how it could end-up working in Apple maps. Enjoy!
