There’s a novel yet simple project currently raising funds at Kickstarter. Called Pressy, it’s touted as the “almighty Android button” that simply plugs into the phone’s 3.5mm headset jack to add new functionality.

The programmable button on top of Pressy can be set to send a predefined text message to your mom (or any contact), take a quick photo, open some app, fire-up the flashlight and so on. It’s pretty cool and you can define multiple actions for the Pressy, with few short clicks doing one thing and one long click doing something else. There’s an easy to use app that makes all this possible that comes included as part of the deal.

Pressy is looking to raise $40,000 and they’ve surpassed that goal in under a day. As I’m writing this, more than $165,000 has been pledged and there are still 45 days to go.

In order to secure your Pressy unit, you’ll have to pay at least $17. $3 more also gets you an ever-useful key chain or you can choose the color of the Pressy button. There are few other options as well, including the most expensive one ($1,000) that buys you API implementation.

Check out the short demo video below and see for yourself whether Pressy is worth $17. We think it is. 😉
