Yesterday Apple became the latest phone maker to bling up its line, announcing the new iPhone 5S in gold. Now a leaked photo hints that HTC might be trying to mine some of the same beautiful, shiny ore. The company’s flagship, the HTC One has shown up bathed in gold!
Android news site Phandroid turned up the photos, originally uploaded on Chinese language site Weibo.com. They show what clearly appears to be a HTC One with a gold housing.
So did Apple usher in a new Golden Age with its announce of the gold iPhone 5S. Phone makers have dabbled in gold here and there but it’s never really caught on. Will the new Apple seal of approval make gold electronics cool again? Is the gold HTC One only the first in what will be a long line of sparkling, gold dipped devices? We’ll have to wait and see.
The HTC One released in black and silver. But its recently made a blue option available as an exclusive to Best Buy, and an exclusive red option for Sprint. If this gold option is real, it might be an exclusive to a carrier or retailer too.
