While Qualcomm will continue to dominate the high-end of the market, MediaTek is powering an increasing number of low- to mid-range devices. The company’s newly unveiled 64-bit LTE SOC MT6732 is made for the new “super-mid market,” offering enough power to keep even the savvy users happy with the performance (or so we think).
The MT6732 platform combines quad-core 1.5GHz ARM Cortex-A53 processor system with next-gen Mali-T760 GPU with support for the Open GL ES 3.0 and Open CL 1.2 APIs. This in turn should enable multimedia features like:
- 1080p 30fps video playback with support for the emerging video codec standard H.265 as well as legacy H.264 and 1080p, 30fps H.264 video recording
- Integrated 13MP camera image signal processor with support for features such as Picture-in-Picture, Video in Video, and Video Face Beautifier
- MediaTek ClearMotion technology – which eliminates motion jitter and ensures smooth video playback at 60fps on mobile devices
- MediaTek MiraVision technology for DTV-grade picture quality
In addition, the SoC integrates multi-mode 4G LTE modem, dual-band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0.
The MT6732 platform will be commercially available by Q3 of 2014, with devices expected by the end of the year.
