Yup, we’ve told you that former Apple CEO John Sculley is looking to launch a phone making company in India, and voila – now we know it will be called OBI.
According to The Economic Times of India, the company will unveil a range of affordable smartphones and feature phones as soon as next month, with prices ranging from 5000 to 12000 INR. Sculley will invest some $20 million through Singapore based Inflexionpoint, with the idea to grow business to $1 billion in just two years.
Singapore’s Dragon Technology will be manufacturing these devices while supply will be taken care by its Indian subsidiary Iris computer. Ajay Sharma, who used to lead smartphone division at Micromax, will be President of OBI’s mobile device business.
OBI plans to offer devices that are slightly more expensive than local brands but more affordable than Apple and Samsung. In addition to India, the company is eyeing growing markets in Asia Pacific, Latin America and the Middle East…
