Google is apparently working on a low-cost Nexus device, one that could be sold for around $100 sans any strings attached. According to trusted insiders from Taiwan supply chains, the search giant is in talks with MediaTek in order to make such affordable smartphone a reality. The sources don’t say anything about distribution plans, like whether this phone will be sold all around the world or will rather target users in emerging markets, only.
So far Google has proven it knows how to make great devices that don’t cost a fortune. With a low-cost Nexus phone, it could bring the same model to parts of Asia, Africa and Latin America, getting more folks hooked to its services along the way.
Bear in mind this is still in the rumors phase, and as far as we (don’t) know, the affordable Nexus phone may never get released. We’ll have to wait and see where this goes. Stay tuned in the meantime…
