The LG Optimus G is getting Android 4.4 KitKat update in LG’s home turf. Koreans owning LG’s 2012 flagship were prompted to download a 608MB-heavy file that packs both Google’s and LG’s software.

Included in the deal was LG’s Knock Code that allows users to unlock their phone with just a few taps on the screen. In addition, there’s support for the new ART runtime and improved performance thanks to the number of changes and tweaks KitKat brings to the mix.

For those of you who missed it, the Optimus G uses the same hardware platform as the Nexus 4, so it should have no problems running the latest version of Android. It’s up to LG to optimize its own software and make sure it runs smoothly on KitKat.

Following Korea, we expect that the rest of the world gets the same update in the next few weeks… or month. We can’t really tell…
