LG secures trademarks for G Prime, F Prime, L Prime and W Prime

LG has recently filed four trademark applications with the USPTO for names of the still unannounced phones or phone series: G Prime, F Prime, L Prime and W Prime.

While we’re not sure what LG plans to do with these names — if it does anything at all — we could assume these would be premium versions of the phones in the G, F, L and W series, where W series could be used for LG’s upcoming Windows Phone devices.

Now, if I would have to guess, premium phones would have metal bodies instead of plastic ones. That’s all cool, but is there really the market for aluminum-clad entry-level devices from the L series. I don’t think so, but I could be wrong.

At the end of the day, this could just be part of LG’s strategy to secure its branding rights and nothing else. We may never get to see their “Prime” phones… though we hope that won’t be the case.
