Xiaomi to “start working” on North America next year

Xiaomi to start working on North America next year

This year was a blast for Xiaomi which entered 10 new markets across Asia, India included. Like that’s not enough, they are preparing to further expand to the West and eventually “start working” on North America next year.

The news comes straight from horse’s mouth, Xiaomi’s own Hugo Barra, who famously left Google to work for the fast-growing Chinese handset maker where he currently serves as Vice President responsible for Xiaomi’s Global division.

The North American market is hardest to tackle. Building relationships with carriers takes time and most users in the U.S. and Canada are still not open to buy high-end gear wearing the “designed in China” moniker. That could change though, and if anyone can do it – that would be Xiaomi, which is already known as “Apple of China.”

Just imagine the ability to buy an HTC One M8-like device for half the price. You would be skeptical at first and then after reading couple of (raving) reviews, you may visit a local store, play with the device for few minutes and eventually go for it. I know I was skeptical but then I got to review the Xiaomi Mi3. As I said it before – it’s an amazing product I’m sure many folks living in North America would like.

No word on Xiaomi’s European plans, but we presume that will also come next year…
