After Kyocera, China’s Vivo may be the next vendor to launch a smartphone with sapphire glass display.
According to GizChina, the company that is behind some of the coolest phones on the planet like the Vivo Xshot and Xplay 3S, is gearing towards launching yet another ground-breaking device that will be virtually indestructible. At least the screen part.
The rumored phone will have a bezel-less design, making for a that much sexier look and feel. The screen is rumored to have a diagonal of 5 inches and the price will be around 4,000 Yuan (about $650). So yes, this will be a premium product.
Alas, like all other Vivo-made phones, this unit may also be limited to users in China with the rest of the world turning to importers to get one.
Kyocera and Vivo aside, Apple may be the first big company to use the said material to protect screens of the next-gen iPhones. At the moment, the Cupertino-based company uses sapphire glass for Touch ID and to protect the smartphone’s camera.
Meanwhile, sapphire is much used among the luxury handset makers such as Vertu and Gresso, though their products are out of reach for most of users.
