Now that every vendor on the planet can use Windows Phone free of charge, and can also rely on existing Android hardware, we’ll see any number of different smartphones running Microsoft’s mobile platform.
BLU Products is one of those looking to benefit from this opportunity — as we’ve reported before — and it has just launched what is arguably the single most affordable Windows Phone 8.1 handset ever.
The new BLU Win JR isn’t exactly a powerhouse under the hood, but you shouldn’t expect much more for $89, which is the amount Amazon and Microsoft are asking for the unlocked, SIM-free unit.
Anyhow, BLU is positioning its baby as a Lumia 530 competitor, even pointing out how it’s better than Nokia’s Microsoft’s product. The Win JR comes with better 5MP rear camera with auto-focus, VGA front-facing camera, and “bigger than Lumia 530” 1,950 mAh battery. Rest of the specs are identical and include Qualcomm’s 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 200 chip, 4-inch WVGA screen, HSPA connectivity, 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal memory. The device is available in few colors, including white, magenta, yellow and orange.
Sounds like a great first-phone for a child, don’t you think?
