LG is preparing to launch its very first Android-powered flip phone. Dubbed Wine Smart, the device will be unveiled in South Korea, and as far as we know – it may never hit other markets. Or not. Samsung already sells few Android clamshells in China, so LG may take that route as well.
Nevertheless, we doubt this little fella’ will ever make it to the Western hemisphere. And we’re not sure we necessarily want it.
For one thing, we don’t know what’s it all about. The promo page, in Korean, doesn’t spill the beans on the specs sheet, leaving us to ponder what kind of hardware the Wine Smart boasts under the hood. We would guess this will be a mid-ranger rocking Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chip, though you never know. Perhaps Koreans opted for something faster, instead.
We should get all the details soon, and in the meantime we want to know – would you consider getting a smart flip phone?
For those who missed it, LG used to sell clamshell-shaped Wine feature phones in the West. These devices looked nice, but since their feature set was limited, they never got serious media attention. With an Android-powered Wine Smart, the situation could be different; but again, this presumes such device actually launches in Europe and North America…
