Xiaomi is preparing to launch a more affordable version of its Mi4 smartphone. In a short Weibo post, the company’s CEO Lei Jun confirmed the news, adding that the “Youth Edition” model will go for as little as 1799 Yuan (about $294).
According to GizChina, this model will be launched as a direct rival to the Meizu MX4 which has been selling like cupcakes in recent weeks.
It’s worth noting that the Mi4 Youth Edition variant won’t have all the bells and whistles the regular Mi4 has. But it won’t be too crippled, either. As far as I’ve understood, the only difference between the two different versions will be in the amount of RAM. Whereas the regular Mi4 comes with 3GB, the Youth Edition will top at 2 gigs. This should still be enough for the majority of users, or so we think.
No word whether the Mi4 Youth Edition will ever be available outside of China, though. We’ll let you know if we hear something like that…
