OnePlus won’t be launching the Android 5.0 Lollipop update before March, the company’s co-founder and CEO Carl Pei has revealed on Twitter.
According to Pei, we have the issues of “proprietary drivers, code, QA, certifications” to blame for this delay. Previously, OnePlus said it will be launching Android firmware updates 90 days after Google launches the new version of the platform. For those who count, that would be February.
OnePlus One’s update had also entered QA stage earlier this month, but it looks like something went wrong and that we’ll have to wait for another week or so.
Meanwhile, owners of rooted OnePlus One devices are already running Lollipop on their smartphones. We don’t suggest taking that route except if you *really* know what you’re doing. There’s a chance something goes wrong and you could end up with a bricked device. Waiting is a safer option. And it’s not like you have to wait forever, quite the contrary…
