Xiaomi has launched the Redmi K Pad 2 in China, positioning it as a gaming-focused tablet in the increasingly competitive compact Android tablet market. The device features an 8.8-inch 3K display with a 165Hz refresh rate and MediaTek’s flagship Dimensity 9500 processor.

The tablet enters a market where high-refresh displays and flagship performance are becoming standard expectations for premium Android tablets. With Apple dominating the tablet space through its iPad lineup, Android manufacturers like Xiaomi are focusing on gaming performance and competitive pricing to carve out market share.

The Redmi K Pad 2 sports an 8.8-inch LCD display with 3008 x 1880 resolution in a 16:10 aspect ratio. The screen supports variable refresh rates up to 165Hz, HDR Vivid, Dolby Vision, and reaches up to 1100 nits brightness. Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protects the display, while the tablet measures just 6.62mm thick and weighs 345g.

Gaming performance gets special attention with a 240Hz touch sampling rate, 1080Hz instant touch mode, and 540Hz multi-finger sampling for improved control accuracy. These specifications directly compete with gaming phones and tablets that prioritize responsive touch input for competitive gaming.

Under the hood, the tablet runs MediaTek’s 3nm Dimensity 9500 chipset clocked up to 4.21GHz, paired with a 12-core Mali G1-Ultra GPU and MediaTek NPU 990. A large 15,300mm² vapor chamber cooling system handles heat management during extended gaming sessions, allowing sustained 165Hz gameplay in supported titles.

Memory and storage options include:

  • Up to 16GB LPDDR5X RAM
  • Up to 1TB UFS 4.1 storage
  • Multiple configurations to match different budgets

The 9100mAh battery supports 67W fast charging and 22.5W reverse charging. The tablet also includes bypass charging support, which reduces heat generation during gaming by powering the device directly while preserving battery health.

Audio features include dual full-range speakers with Dolby Atmos and Bose tuning, addressing the growing importance of audio quality in mobile gaming and media consumption. Connectivity includes Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, and USB Type-C with audio support.

The tablet runs Android 16 with HyperOS 3, offering multitasking features and integration with Xiaomi’s broader ecosystem of devices. This software approach reflects the industry trend toward creating seamless experiences across multiple device types.

Pricing in China starts at 3,599 yuan (approximately $495) for the 8GB + 256GB variant, with higher configurations reaching 4,999 yuan ($686) for the 16GB + 512GB model. All variants receive a 200 yuan discount until April 28, 2026. The tablet is available in black, purple, and silver color options.

The Redmi K Pad 2’s positioning reflects Xiaomi’s strategy of bringing flagship-level features to more accessible price points. As the tablet market continues to recover from recent declines, devices that combine gaming performance with productivity features may help drive renewed consumer interest in Android tablets.
