Motorola has launched the Moto G47, jumping directly from the G45 released in August 2024 without a G46 model. The new device brings substantial upgrades that address common complaints about budget smartphones, particularly display quality and build durability.
The Moto G47 represents Motorola’s continued effort to deliver premium features at accessible price points, a strategy that has helped the company maintain relevance in the competitive budget smartphone market. With Samsung and Xiaomi aggressively pricing their entry-level offerings, Motorola’s focus on practical improvements like water resistance and display quality shows a clear understanding of what budget-conscious consumers actually want.
The most notable upgrade comes in the display department. The Moto G47 features a 6.67-inch Full HD+ screen with a 120Hz refresh rate, a significant jump from the Moto G45’s 6.45-inch 720p panel. This resolution bump addresses one of the most common criticisms of budget phones – pixelated text and images that become obvious during daily use.
Motorola has also strengthened the device’s protection, upgrading from Gorilla Glass 3 to Gorilla Glass 7i. The phone now carries an IP64 rating for dust and water resistance, plus MIL-STD-810H certification for durability. These additions put the G47 on par with more expensive devices that cost twice as much.
The design refresh aligns the G47 with its siblings in the current Motorola lineup, including the G87, G37, and G37 Power. This unified design language helps create a more cohesive brand identity across different price points.
Under the hood, the phone runs on a Dimensity 6300 processor paired with 8GB of RAM. Storage options include 128GB and 256GB variants, both expandable via microSD. The camera setup maintains the dual-rear configuration with a 108MP primary sensor featuring 3x lossless zoom and a 2MP macro camera. Interestingly, the front camera steps down from 16MP on the G45 to 8MP on the G47, likely a cost-cutting measure to accommodate the other upgrades.
Key specifications include:
- 6.67-inch FHD+ display with 120Hz refresh rate
- Dimensity 6300 processor with 8GB RAM
- 108MP main camera with 3x lossless zoom
- 5,200mAh battery with 20W charging
- IP64 water resistance and MIL-STD-810H certification
- Android 16 with Hello UX interface
The 5,200mAh battery supports 20W wired charging and includes 6W reverse wired charging for powering accessories. Audio features include stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos, a 3.5mm headphone jack with Hi-Res Audio support, and dual microphones. Connectivity options cover Bluetooth 5.4, dual-band Wi-Fi 5, NFC, and dual SIM support.
The Moto G47 ships with Android 16 and Motorola’s Hello UX interface. The phone comes in three Pantone-certified colors: Nautical Blue, Fuchsia Red, and Impenetrable Black. Starting at €319, the device includes a TurboPower 20W charger and protective case in the box – extras that many manufacturers have eliminated to cut costs.
This pricing positions the G47 competitively against similar offerings from Realme, Redmi, and Samsung’s Galaxy A series. The inclusion of genuine upgrades like the FHD+ display and improved build quality, rather than just spec sheet numbers, suggests Motorola understands what matters most to users who keep their phones for several years.
