Huawei Nova 15 Max goes global with 4000-nit screen and massive 8500mAh battery

Huawei has officially launched the Nova 15 Max in global markets, bringing impressive specs to the mid-range smartphone segment. The device features a bright OLED display, massive battery, and aggressive pricing at €499 for 256GB storage.

The Nova 15 Max is essentially a rebranded version of the Enjoy 90 Pro Max that launched in China back in March. This global launch marks Huawei’s continued push to compete in international markets despite ongoing challenges with Google services and chip restrictions.

The standout feature is the 6.84-inch OLED screen that reaches 4000 nits of peak brightness – putting it in flagship territory for display quality. The screen packs FHD+ resolution (2756 x 1272 pixels), 120Hz refresh rate, and support for 1.07 billion colors with P3 color gamut coverage. That brightness level means the phone should remain perfectly readable even in direct sunlight.

Battery life gets a major boost from the 8500mAh cell – one of the largest capacities you’ll find in a smartphone today. Huawei claims this translates to real-world usage times that most phones can’t match:

  • 48 hours of continuous calling
  • 27 hours of local video playback
  • 25 hours of GPS navigation
  • 23 hours of streaming video

The phone supports 40W fast charging through Huawei’s Super-Charge Turbo technology. The company has also integrated what it calls “Energy Booster Technology” that supposedly increases cell capacity by 99% compared to traditional batteries of the same physical size.

For photography, the Nova 15 Max keeps things simple with a dual rear camera setup. The main shooter uses a 50MP sensor with f/1.9 aperture, paired with a 2MP depth sensor. An 8MP front camera handles selfies. Huawei has included AI features like “Best Expression” that automatically selects the best facial expressions from group photos.

The phone runs EMUI 14.2 and comes with 256GB of internal storage. An interesting addition is a customizable “X button” on the side that can be programmed for quick access to frequently used apps, smart home controls, or system functions like the flashlight or calculator.

Design-wise, the Nova 15 Max measures 163.3 x 78 x 7.98mm and weighs 232 grams – fairly standard for a phone with such a large battery. It comes in three color options: Blush Gold, Lake Cyan, and Golden Black, all with what Huawei describes as “shimmery” finishes.

This launch fits into Huawei’s broader strategy of focusing on hardware excellence and competitive pricing to maintain market share outside China. The combination of flagship display tech and exceptional battery life at a sub-€500 price point could make the Nova 15 Max attractive to users who prioritize screen quality and all-day battery life over cutting-edge processors or camera systems.

The phone will be available for pre-orders soon in global markets, with Huawei promising early bird deals for initial buyers. However, like other recent Huawei phones, it will ship without Google Play Services, relying instead on Huawei’s AppGallery ecosystem.
