Honor Magic 9 Pro Max rumored with dual 200MP cameras

Honor is reportedly working on a Pro Max variant of its upcoming Magic 9 flagship series, complete with a dual 200MP camera system. The move would put Honor in line with industry leaders who have adopted the ‘Pro Max’ naming convention for their premium smartphones.

The Pro Max trend started with Apple and has since spread across the Android ecosystem. Xiaomi launched its 17 Pro Max in 2025, while Huawei introduced its first Mate 80 Pro Max with 8000 nits brightness and the Kirin 9030 Pro chip. Honor appears ready to join this premium tier with its own take on the format.

According to reports from Chinese social media, the Honor Magic 9 Pro Max will focus heavily on camera capabilities. The device is expected to feature a dual 200MP setup that includes both a main camera and a zoom sensor, marking a significant step up from typical smartphone camera configurations.

Honor is reportedly testing two different sensors for the main camera: the OV52B and the OVB0D. The OVB0D appears to be the more advanced option, featuring a 1/1.12-inch sensor size and second-generation LOFIC + DCG technology. This combination should deliver improved dynamic range and better performance in challenging lighting conditions.

The camera system represents more than just higher megapixel counts. Honor has partnered with ARRI, the German company known for professional cinema cameras, to bring advanced imaging solutions to its flagship phones. This collaboration suggests Honor is targeting both photography enthusiasts and content creators who need professional-grade video capabilities.

The timing makes sense for Honor as the company continues to establish itself as a premium smartphone brand following its independence from Huawei. The Pro Max positioning would put Honor’s flagship directly against the iPhone Pro Max, Samsung’s Ultra series, and other premium Android devices in the competitive flagship market.

However, Honor hasn’t officially confirmed any details about the Magic 9 series or a Pro Max model. The information comes from social media speculation and industry rumors, so the final specifications and features could differ from these early reports.

The smartphone camera race continues to intensify as brands push for higher megapixel counts and advanced imaging features. If Honor’s dual 200MP system delivers on image quality, it could help differentiate the brand in a crowded flagship market where camera performance often determines purchase decisions.
