Motorola has officially launched its first book-style foldable smartphone, the Razr Fold, in the Indian market. The device represents a significant shift for the brand, which previously focused on flip-style foldables with its traditional Razr lineup.

The timing of this launch is strategic, as the foldable smartphone market in India continues to grow despite premium pricing. Motorola is positioning itself to compete directly with Samsung’s Galaxy Fold series and other book-style foldables that have gained traction among tech enthusiasts and business users who value the large screen real estate for productivity.

The Razr Fold comes in two standard configurations and a special FIFA World Cup Edition. The base model with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage costs ?149,999 ($1,565), while the higher-end 16GB/512GB variant is priced at ?159,999 ($1,670). The FIFA World Cup Edition, exclusively available with 16GB/512GB configuration, carries a premium at ?169,999 ($1,775).

Color options for the standard models include Pantone Blackened Blue and Pantone Lily White. The FIFA edition comes in black with special customizations that include:

  • Custom FIFA UI elements throughout the interface
  • Pre-installed FIFA Heroes game
  • 24-karat FIFA logo plating on the rear panel
  • Exclusive FIFA-themed wallpapers and themes

Pre-orders are now live through Motorola’s official Indian website, with sales and shipments beginning May 20. The device will also be available through major retail partners including Flipkart, Reliance Digital, and other electronics stores across India.

Under the hood, the Razr Fold runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 processor paired with Android 16. The phone features a dual-display setup with an 8.1-inch 120Hz LTPO P-OLED main folding screen at 2,484×2,232 pixel resolution, and a 6.6-inch 165Hz LTPO P-OLED cover display with 1080p resolution. The high refresh rates on both displays should provide smooth scrolling and responsive touch interactions.

Photography capabilities are comprehensive with a five-camera system. The setup includes a 20MP front-facing camera, 32MP cover camera for selfies when folded, 50MP main camera, 50MP periscope telephoto camera, and 50MP ultrawide camera. This camera configuration puts it in line with other flagship devices and addresses one of the key concerns users have had with foldable phones.

Battery life gets attention with a substantial 6,000mAh capacity, which should easily handle a full day of use despite powering two displays. Fast charging support includes 80W wired charging and 50W wireless charging, allowing users to quickly top up the large battery.

The launch comes at a time when foldable phones are moving from novelty items to more practical devices. Samsung has dominated this space in India, but Motorola’s entry with competitive specifications and the brand’s reputation for near-stock Android experience could appeal to users looking for alternatives. The FIFA edition also taps into India’s massive football fanbase, potentially attracting sports enthusiasts willing to pay extra for exclusive branding and features.
