Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 and Z Flip8 to feature Google’s Gemini Intelligence with multi-app AI assistant

Samsung’s next-generation foldable smartphones will introduce a new AI assistant that can jump between different apps to complete complex tasks without user intervention. The Galaxy Z Fold8 and Z Flip8, set to launch in July, will be the first devices to feature Google’s newly announced Gemini Intelligence technology.

According to industry sources, Samsung will integrate Gemini Intelligence into One UI 9, the latest version of its Android-based operating system. This marks a significant step forward from current AI assistants that typically work within single applications.

The standout feature of Gemini Intelligence is its ability to perform multitasking across different apps. For example, users can create a shopping list in their notes app and simply say “add these items to my delivery app cart.” The AI will then navigate between the notes app and delivery app to complete the task, leaving users to just review and pay for their order.

This development represents the next evolution in smartphone AI capabilities. While current assistants can open apps and perform basic commands, the ability to coordinate actions across multiple applications could fundamentally change how people interact with their devices. It also positions Samsung and Google ahead of competitors in the race to create more capable AI assistants.

Samsung previously introduced actionable AI features with One UI 8.5 on the Galaxy S26 series earlier this year, but those capabilities were limited to single-app interactions. One UI 9 with Gemini Intelligence expands this concept significantly by adding cross-app coordination.

The company has already begun beta testing One UI 9 for Galaxy S26 users in key markets including South Korea. The current beta includes several new features:

  • “Masking Tape” – enhanced pen options for the Notes app
  • “Creative Studio” – streamlined profile card creation linked to contacts
  • Various interface improvements and optimizations

However, Gemini Intelligence functionality isn’t available in the beta version yet. Samsung plans to include the full AI capabilities in the final release that will ship with the new foldable phones.

“The new One UI 9 will provide advanced AI features based on next-generation Android, delivering a more efficient and personalized mobile experience,” a Samsung spokesperson said.

The timing of this announcement is significant as the smartphone industry increasingly focuses on AI as a key differentiator. Apple has been developing its own AI features, while other Android manufacturers are working on similar capabilities. Samsung’s partnership with Google on Gemini Intelligence could give both companies an advantage in this competitive landscape.

The Galaxy Z Fold8 and Z Flip8 will likely serve as showcase devices for these new AI capabilities, potentially driving adoption of Samsung’s foldable phone lineup while demonstrating the practical benefits of advanced AI assistants.
