Samsung has released a significant update to its PENUP drawing app, bringing version 3.9.22.23 to Galaxy smartphones globally. The update introduces six new features designed to improve the drawing experience for both casual users and digital artists.
The timing of this update is notable as Samsung continues to expand its ecosystem of creative apps. PENUP has become an important part of Samsung’s strategy to differentiate Galaxy devices, particularly those with S Pen support, in an increasingly competitive smartphone market.
The latest PENUP update includes several key improvements that address long-standing user requests:
- New brush added as drawing tool
- Dual Brush support for more complex artwork
- Draft File Export feature for better file management
- Enhanced Lasso tool with Auto-selection option
- Landscape mode support for wider canvases
- Samsung account email sync for better backup
The addition of landscape mode represents a particularly important upgrade. Many digital artists prefer working in landscape orientation for better visibility and control, especially when creating detailed artwork on larger screens. This feature brings PENUP closer to professional drawing applications that have supported multiple orientations from the start.
The Dual Brush support and new drawing tools also signal Samsung’s commitment to making PENUP a more serious creative platform. These features allow artists to create more sophisticated artwork without needing to switch to third-party applications. The enhanced Lasso tool with auto-selection makes editing and refining artwork much more efficient.
Users can download the update through the Galaxy Store by going to Menu and then Updates. The rollout appears to be global and available for all Galaxy devices that support PENUP, not just flagship models with S Pen support.
This update comes as Samsung also pushes out One UI 8.5 based on Android 16 QPR2 to Galaxy smartphones, while simultaneously testing One UI 9.0 beta based on Android 17. The coordinated app and system updates show Samsung’s focus on maintaining a cohesive user experience across its entire software ecosystem.
