Vivo is making a play for the budget smartphone market with features typically reserved for flagship devices. The company launched the Vivo T5 4G in Mexico, packing a massive 7,200mAh battery and premium water resistance ratings into a device priced at just $335.
The move signals how smartphone manufacturers are pushing high-end features down to more affordable price points as competition intensifies in emerging markets. Budget phones with such large batteries and durability certifications were virtually unheard of just a few years ago.
Display and performance specs target everyday users
The Vivo T5 4G centers around a 6.75-inch LCD display with 1570×720 pixel resolution and 120Hz refresh rate support. The screen reaches up to 1,250 nits of brightness, making it usable in direct sunlight.
Powering the device is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 6s Gen 2 4G processor, paired with:
- 8GB LPDDR4X RAM with up to 8GB virtual RAM expansion
- 256GB UFS 2.2 internal storage
- Android 16-based OriginOS 6 interface
The processor choice reflects the phone’s 4G-only connectivity, positioning it for markets where 5G networks aren’t widely available or where users prioritize battery life over bleeding-edge speeds.
Standout battery capacity and build quality
The phone’s biggest selling point is its 7,200mAh battery – significantly larger than most smartphones in any price range. Vivo pairs this with 44W fast charging to reduce the longer charging times typically associated with such large batteries.
More surprising is the inclusion of both IP68 and IP69 ratings for dust and water resistance. These certifications typically appear only on rugged phones or premium flagships, not budget devices under $350.
The build measures 166.64 x 78.43mm, with thickness varying between 8.39mm (black) and 8.49mm (gold). At 219 grams, it’s noticeably heavy due to the large battery.
Camera setup focuses on practical photography
Vivo equipped the T5 4G with a dual rear camera system:
- 50-megapixel primary sensor
- 2-megapixel secondary sensor (likely for depth or macro shots)
- 32-megapixel front-facing camera
The camera setup prioritizes the main sensor over multiple specialty lenses, a practical approach for users who want decent photo quality without paying for features they won’t use.
Connectivity and availability details
The device includes standard connectivity options for its price range:
- Dual SIM 4G support
- Bluetooth 5.1
- Dual-band Wi-Fi
- USB Type-C charging port
- Infrared blaster for controlling appliances
The Vivo T5 4G launches in Mexico in Gold and Black color options, priced at MXN 5,799 (approximately $335) for the single configuration with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage. The company hasn’t announced plans for other markets yet.
