Nubia Neo 5 GT Special Edition launches with liquid and air dual active cooling

Keeping a phone cool during long gaming sessions has always been a weak point for mid-range devices. Heat buildup slows processors, drops frame rates, and turns what should be an enjoyable experience into a frustrating one. Premium gaming phones have addressed this with advanced thermal systems for years, but budget-friendly options have largely been left behind.

Nubia is trying to close that gap. The company announced the Neo 5 GT Special Edition on July 8, 2026, positioning it as a pro-level gaming phone for younger users who want serious performance without paying flagship prices. The headline feature is the AquaCore Cooling System, which the brand claims is the first and only liquid and air dual active cooling setup in its class.

The launch fits into a broader shift in the smartphone market, where gaming-focused features are steadily moving down the price ladder. Manufacturers are increasingly targeting Gen Z users who treat mobile gaming seriously but have limited budgets. Nubia is betting that thermal performance, not just raw specs, is what that audience actually cares about.

How the AquaCore cooling system actually works

The AquaCore system has two active components working together rather than relying on passive heat spreading alone.

  • A liquid cooling loop uses an AI server-grade coolant that is non-conductive and designed for long-term use. A piezoelectric micropump drives continuous circulation through a three-layer cooling film, moving heat away from core components in a clockwise flow.
  • An active cooling fan paired with a through-flow duct design creates a high-speed airflow path that helps push that heat out of the device more quickly.

Nubia also added a transparent design element that lets users see the coolant moving in real time, which doubles as a visual feature for gamers who appreciate that kind of hardware visibility. The total heat dissipation area across the system is 33,652 mm2, combining vapor chamber, graphite, and liquid cooling technologies into one architecture.

Bai Keke, Vice President of ZTE, said the design draws inspiration from two different fields: “combining active air-cooling, drawn from esports PC design, with active liquid-cooling, inspired by AI server thermal management.”

Controls and performance specs

On the control side, Nubia equipped the Neo 5 GT Special Edition with 550Hz Neo Triggers 5.0 paired with a 3049Hz instant touch rate and the Magic Touch 3.0 algorithm. The claimed latency is under 5.5ms, which the company says is the lowest in its class. For fast-paced competitive games, that kind of responsiveness matters more than most spec sheet numbers.

The phone also has a completely flat back, which Nubia says is unique in this segment, along with a 90-degree charging cable designed to keep the cord out of the way during play.

Core specs include:

  • MediaTek Dimensity 7400 built on a 4nm process
  • Up to 24GB dynamic RAM (12GB physical plus 12GB extended)
  • NeoTurbo Engine for frame rate optimization
  • 6,210mAh dual-cell battery
  • 80W fast charging (45W PD for the EU market)
  • Bypass charging to reduce heat during play while plugged in
  • A 5% Extreme Mode that adds up to 30 minutes of gaming time or 27 hours of standby

Display, audio, and AI features

The Neo 5 GT Special Edition has a 6.8-inch 1.5K AMOLED screen with a 144Hz refresh rate and 4,500 nits local peak brightness. That combination should handle fast-moving games well across different lighting conditions.

Audio comes from stereo dual speakers with DTS:X Ultra certification, and the phone includes an X-axis linear motor for haptic feedback during gameplay.

Nubia also integrated AI Copilot Demi 2.0, which includes:

  • Gaming Coach for in-game guidance
  • Gaming Chatbot for on-demand support
  • Demi Auto-Chat, which handles communication so players can stay focused on the game

These features are aimed at making the phone feel more personal and adaptive, particularly for users who are newer to competitive mobile gaming.

Availability and pricing

The Neo 5 GT Special Edition will roll out globally starting in July 2026, with Southeast Asia as the first region. It comes in two colors, Surge Black and Glacial Silver, and in two storage configurations: 256GB and 512GB, both with up to 24GB RAM.

Nubia is also promising five years of software updates, which is a meaningful commitment for a mid-range device and a selling point for users who want long-term value from their purchase.
