HTC Vive Eagle smart glasses finally hit the US, UK, and Europe

Smart glasses have been Meta’s playground for a while now, and HTC wants in. The problem? The Vive Eagle launched in Taiwan back in 2025 and then basically disappeared off the radar for everyone else. No firm dates, no updates, just silence. Now, a full year later, HTC has announced that the Vive Eagle is rolling out across North America, Europe, the UK, and Australia. Better late than never, I guess.

The timing actually matters more than it might seem. Smart glasses are having a genuine moment right now. Meta’s Ray-Bans have sold well enough to make the company take the category seriously, and Google is reportedly circling back to wearables after its Glass disaster. HTC jumping into this space means consumers get real options, and competition is exactly what keeps pricing and features honest.

So what does the Vive Eagle actually do? The big draw is built-in AI. Users can pick between OpenAI or Google Gemini depending on what they need, which is a smart move because no single AI assistant is best at everything. HTC also says collected data won’t be used to train its own models, and requests are anonymized to prevent profiling. That’s a notable privacy pitch in a category where people are understandably nervous about always-on microphones and cameras sitting on their face all day.

Audio comes through open-ear stereo speakers built into the frame, so you can take AI responses, listen to music, or catch up on podcasts without blocking out the world around you. That open-ear design is standard for smart glasses at this point, and it works well enough for casual listening, though don’t expect anything approaching real audio quality.

The glasses come in two frame shapes, square or panto, and a handful of translucent color options.

Lenses are made by Zeiss and come in three variations: clear, tinted, or adaptive. HTC says adding prescription lenses after purchase is straightforward, which is genuinely important for a product that has to compete with glasses people actually need to wear every day.

Pricing is where things get interesting. In the US, the Vive Eagle is available right now starting at $499 for the base model without upgraded lenses. European and UK customers will need to wait until September 21st, with pricing set at €469 and £429 respectively. That puts it roughly in the same ballpark as Meta’s premium smart glasses tier, so HTC isn’t trying to undercut anyone here. It’s betting the AI flexibility and privacy angle are worth paying for.

Whether the Vive Eagle can actually carve out space in this market is still an open question. A one-year delay between a home-market launch and a western rollout is a long time in consumer tech, and first impressions matter. But the hardware sounds solid on paper, the AI integration is genuinely flexible, and the Zeiss partnership adds some credibility. Now we just need to get them on actual faces and see if they hold up.
