Poco X8 lands in India with a massive 9,000mAh battery and six years of software support

A 9,000mAh battery in a mid-range phone is not something you see every day. Poco just dropped the X8 in India, and while the headline spec is that enormous cell, there’s actually quite a bit going on here beyond just raw battery capacity. As reported by Gizmochina, the X8 arrives alongside the more battery-focused X8 Power, rounding out a lineup that already includes the X8 Pro and X8 Pro Max.

What you’re actually getting

The display is a 120Hz AMOLED panel with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on top. That’s solid protection for a phone at this price point. Under the hood, Poco is running Android 16-based HyperOS 3, and the software support promise is genuinely impressive: four major OS upgrades and six years of security updates. That kind of longevity commitment used to be reserved for flagship phones. Seeing it here matters.

On the back, you get a 50-megapixel main camera with optical image stabilisation paired with a 2-megapixel depth sensor. And upfront, a 16-megapixel shooter handles selfies. The depth sensor is a bit of a throwaway spec if we’re being honest, but OIS on the main camera at this tier is a real win.

The features list is actually pretty decent

  • In-display fingerprint sensor
  • Infrared sensor
  • Dual SIM support
  • Stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos
  • IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K dust and water resistance ratings

That IP rating stack is worth calling out. IP69K, specifically, means the phone can handle high-pressure, high-temperature water jets. That’s a spec you usually see on rugged or industrial devices. Poco throwing it on a consumer mid-ranger is a smart move, especially in a market like India where monsoons are a very real thing.

Why the software promise matters more than you think

Six years of security updates is the kind of commitment that changes how you think about a purchase. Most people keep their phones for three to four years, sometimes longer. Knowing your device will still get security patches through the back half of the decade makes the X8 a genuinely sensible buy, not just a spec-sheet bargain. Poco is clearly trying to compete on value in a way that goes beyond just the launch price.

The bigger picture

Mid-range phones in India are getting seriously good, and the X8 is a clear example of that. The competition is fierce, but Poco is stacking the deck with a battery that won’t quit, real durability credentials, and software support that rivals what some Android manufacturers offer on their top-end devices. Pricing and exact availability details are expected to follow the launch announcement, so keep an eye out. But based on what’s here, this one looks worth watching.
