Samsung Galaxy A07s launches with a newer chip and six years of updates

Six years of software updates on a phone that costs $167. That’s the headline here, and honestly, it deserves more attention than the spec sheet does.

Samsung has launched the Galaxy A07s, a refresh of the Galaxy A07 that keeps the budget price intact while nudging the internals forward. The biggest change is the processor. The A07s runs on the MediaTek Helio G99+, a step up from the standard G99 in the original A07. That upgrade brings support for faster LPDDR5X RAM, replacing the older LPDDR4X. In practice, the difference isn’t going to blow anyone away, but for everyday use like scrolling social media, streaming video, or juggling a few apps, it should feel a touch snappier.

The camera setup is a 50MP primary shooter paired with a 2MP depth lens. That’s a familiar budget combo and nobody is pretending otherwise. What you’re getting here isn’t flagship photography. It’s a capable enough camera for daylight photos and casual moments, which is exactly what this kind of phone is for. The display is a 6.7-inch LCD panel, standard for this tier.

Battery life shouldn’t be a concern. The A07s carries a 5,000mAh cell, which is plenty to get through a full day of use without reaching for a charger. It charges via USB Type-C. The phone also has an IP54 rating, which means it can handle splashes and dust without drama. That’s not waterproofing, but it’s reassuring. Other basics include a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, dual-SIM 4G, Bluetooth 5.3, Wi-Fi, and GPS.

Now, back to that software commitment. Samsung is promising six major Android OS upgrades and six years of security patches for the A07s. For a phone in this price range, that’s genuinely impressive. Most budget phones get left behind after one or two updates. This one is being set up to stay relevant well into the 2030s. That matters a lot if you’re buying on a tight budget and can’t afford to replace your phone every two years.

Here’s what the A07s brings to the table:

  • MediaTek Helio G99+ processor with LPDDR5X RAM support
  • 50MP + 2MP rear camera
  • 6.7-inch LCD display
  • 5,000mAh battery with USB Type-C charging
  • IP54 dust and splash resistance
  • Side-mounted fingerprint sensor
  • Bluetooth 5.3, dual-SIM 4G, Wi-Fi, GPS
  • Six major OS updates and six years of security patches

Right now, the A07s has launched in the Levant region, starting in Jordan. It comes in Black, Light Violet, and Green, priced at JOD 119, which works out to roughly $167 or about 15,860 Indian rupees. Samsung may bring additional memory configurations to other markets down the line, but this is where it starts.

So is the A07s exciting? Not really. But that’s fine. Budget phones don’t need to be exciting. They need to be reliable, durable, and supported for long enough that buyers actually get their money’s worth. The Helio G99+ is a modest but meaningful bump, and the long update window puts the A07s ahead of most rivals at this price. If you want a Samsung phone that won’t feel abandoned in three years, this is a pretty solid starting point.
